- Temple History The temple’s legacy began in the 18th century, primarily through the efforts of the Dodla family, who were influential local administrators. In 1715, Dodla Anna Reddy settled in the region and gained prominence under the British and the Nawab of Arcot. However, it was his grandson, Dodla Rami Reddy (popularly known as Bangaru Rami Reddy), who initiated the temple's construction in 1765. According to local lore, Lord Rama appeared in Rami Reddy’s dream and instructed him to build a permanent residence for the deity in this town. The construction was a monumental labor of devotion that spanned 19 years, reaching completion in 1784. Built entirely of stone, the temple showcases a blend of Dravidian architectural styles. While the current structure dates to the 1700s, local tradition suggests the site itself has ancient spiritual roots, with some artistic signatures reflecting Chola-style craftsmanship that may have influenced the later builders. The most extraordinary feature of this temple is the positioning of the deities. In almost every Hindu temple, Goddess Sita is placed to the left of Lord Rama. However, at Buchireddypalem, Goddess Sita stands on the right side of Lord Rama. It is believed that worshipping the Goddess in this rare "Dakshina" (right) position brings exceptional prosperity, wealth, and Moksha (liberation) to devotees. Today, the temple is famous for its 100-foot Rajagopuram, which is considered the second tallest in Andhra Pradesh.
