- Temple History The Dichpally Ramalayam, located in Dichpally village about 20 kilometers from Nizamabad on the Hyderabad route, is one of the oldest and most magnificent temples in the region. Built in the 14th century by the Kakatiya dynasty, this ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Rama stands as a glorious example of medieval stone architecture. Constructed using black and white basalt stone, the temple is renowned for its extraordinary carvings of deities, animals, mythical figures, and intricate sculptures reminiscent of the famous Khajuraho Temples. Because of this resemblance, it is popularly known as the “Indhoor Khajuraho” or the “Khajuraho of Nizamabad,” and is also locally referred to as Khilla Ramalayam due to its fort-like structure. The temple complex is enclosed by a sturdy masonry wall with bastions at all four corners and a north-facing gateway, reflecting the distinctive Kakatiya architectural style. A beautifully carved Keerthi Thorana welcomes devotees, leading to 105 stone steps that ascend toward the sanctum. For the convenience of elderly and physically challenged devotees, a pedestrian subway has been constructed, which also connects the temple to the nearby Raghunadha Temple. The walls, pillars, ceilings, and door frames of the temple are adorned with breathtaking sculptures that continue to stand as proud reminders of Kakatiya artistic excellence.
