- Temple History Lord Shiva is the embodiment of Omkara. He is easily pleased by his devotees and is like a wish-fulfilling tree for them. Shiva is the only deity who manifests in both formless and embodied forms. To bestow knowledge and liberation through the worship of the formless and attributeless, the Lord, who is easily swayed by devotion, incarnated as Mallikarjuna Swamy on the Beeramguda hill. It is well known that wherever and however the Shiva Lingam is worshipped, it grants liberation to any living being. This temple, which is said to be comparable to the great pilgrimage site of Srisailam, is believed to date back to the 6th century. It flourished as a great pilgrimage center during the periods of the Badami Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Kalyani Chalukyas, and Kakatiya kings. Located on a hill north of Beeramguda village, in a vast area of natural beauty, this temple, which is considered equal to the Srisailam Sri Bramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple, is said to have been the place where Sage Bhrigu performed penance in ancient times. Pleased by his devotion, Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy appeared before him. When the holy men requested that this place should always be accessible for devotees to have his darshan, the divine couple listened to their plea and manifested on this Beeramguda hill. As evidence of this, there are indications of a tunnel connecting the temple from the southwest direction to Srisailam. Furthermore, according to the accounts of elders and as described in the Srisaila Mahatyam text, it is said that the assembly of Indra (the assembly of the gods) used to take place here at night. The temple of Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy, along with Sri Bhramaramba, is located 30 yojanas away from Srisailam mountain. This is that very temple. During the rule of the Chalukyas, a Jain king named Immadi Jayasimha, belonging to the Bijjala dynasty, established his residence in Pottalakere (now known as Patancheru) from 1015 to 1042 AD. His queen, Nugguladevi, was a devout devotee of Lord Shiva and worshipped this deity. A debate arose regarding the ritual of washing the Lord's feet, involving Devara Dasamayya, a devotee of Shiva. The Jains opposed the invitation of Devara Dasamayya to this debate. A debate ensued between Devara Dasamayya and a Jain sage named Sarvaghna Nemi. The devotees of Shiva emerged victorious, and the Jains were defeated. Therefore, it is a prayer that all devotees participate in the Maha Shivaratri festival and become recipients of the Lord's grace. ఓంకార స్వరూపుడు శివుడు. అతడు భక్త సులభుడు. భక్తులపాలిట కల్పవృక్షము. సాకార నిరాకార స్వరూపాలతో సాక్షాత్కరించె దైవము శివుడొక్కడే. నిర్గుణ నిరాకారోపాసన ద్వారా జ్ఞానమోక్షములు అందించుటకై భక్తవశంకరుడు బీరంగూడ గుట్టపై మల్లికార్జున స్వామిగా అవతరించినాడు. శివలింగము ఎక్కడ ఏ విధముగా పూజింపబడినను, ఏ ప్రాణికైనను మోక్షప్రదమగునన్న విషయము ఎల్లరకు తెలిసినదే. శ్రీశైల మహాక్షేత్రమునకు సమతూగగల ఈ దేవాలయము 6వ శతాబ్ధమునకు సంబంధించినదని వినికిడి. బాదామి, చాళుక్యులు, రాష్ట్రకూటులు, కళ్యాణి చాళుక్యులు మరియు కాకతీయ రాజుల కాలమున ఒక గొప్ప పుణ్యక్షేత్రముగా వెలుగొందినది. బీరంగూడ గ్రామమునకు ఉత్తర దిశగా గల గుట్టపై ప్రకృతి సౌందర్యముతో సువిశాలమైన స్థలంలో వెలసిన సాక్షాత్ శ్రీశైల శ్రీ బ్రమరాంబ మల్లికార్జున స్వామి దేవాలయమునకు సమతూగగల ఈ దేవాలయము నందు పూర్వకాలములో భృగు మహర్షి తపస్సు చేసినప్పుడు వారి భక్తికి మెచ్చి శ్రీ మల్లికార్జున స్వామి ప్రత్యక్షమై ఇక్కడి ప్రాంతం భక్తులకు ఎల్లవేళలా దర్శన భాగ్యం ఉండవలెనని పుణ్య పురుషులు కోరగా అందుకు ఆది దంపతులు వారి మొరనాలకించి ఈ బీరంగూడ గుట్టపై వెలసినారని వినికిడి. అందుకు ఆధారంగా ఆలయానికి నైఋతి దిక్కు నుండి శ్రీశైలం వరకు సొరంగ మార్గం ఉన్నట్లు నిదర్శనములు కలవు. ఇంతేకాక ఇక్కడ రాత్రి వేళల యందు ఇంద్ర సభ (దేవసభ) జరుగుచుండేదని పెద్దల ఉవాచ మరియు శ్రీశైల మహత్యం అను గ్రంధంలో వివరించిన ప్రకారం శ్రీశైలం పర్వతమునకు 30 ఆమడల దూరంలో శ్రీ భ్రమరాంబ సహిత మల్లికార్జున స్వామి దేవాలయం కలదు. అదే ఈ దేవాలయము. ఈ ప్రాంతము చాణిక్యుల పరిపాలనలో బిజ్జలుని వంశమునకు సంబంధించిన ఇమ్మడి జయసింహుడనే జైనరాజు 1015 సంవత్సరము నుండి 1042 సంవత్సరము వరకు పొట్టలకేరిలో (పొట్టలకేరి అనగా ఇప్పుడు పటాన్ చెరువుగా పిలువ బడుచున్నది) స్థిర నివాసము ఏర్పరుచుకొని ఉండెను. ఈ జయసింహుని భార్య పట్టపురాణియైన నుగ్గుళాదేవి మంచి శివభక్తురాలై ఈ స్వామిని పూజించినది మరియు పాదపూజకై శివశరణుడైన దేవర దాసమయ్యకు వాదన జరిగెను. ఈ వివాదమునందు దేవర దాసమయ్యను ఆహ్వానించినందున జైనులు వ్యతిరేకించిరి. జైనుల పక్షము నుండి సర్వఘ్ననేమి అను జైనమునికి దేవరదాసమయ్యకు వాదన జరిగెను. శివశరణులు శివశరణులు గెలుపొంది జైనులు పరాజితులైరి.కావున భక్తులందరు మహాశివరాత్రి ఉత్సవములో పాల్గొని శ్రీ స్వామి వారికృపకు పాత్రులు కాగలరని ప్రార్థన.
