- Temple History In ancient times, this entire region was a forest, and the two villages where the temple is now located, Keshavapuram and Jannadhapuram, were situated on the main road leading from Khammam to Bhadrachalam. A tiger used to roam near this main road every day. This tiger would rest under a tamarind tree beside the road, behaving like a gentle animal and causing no harm to the people of the nearby villages. Seeing this tiger, the villagers, travelers, and those using vehicles on the main road considered it a divine being, a forest goddess, and an embodiment of Goddess Sri Kanaka Durga, and worshipped it with devotion. It is said that the wishes and desires of these devotees were fulfilled. Over time, the tiger, which was considered a manifestation of Goddess Sri Kanaka Durga, disappeared. From then on, the villagers placed a picture of Goddess Sri Kanaka Durga under that tamarind tree and worshipped it. Later, in 1961-62, Sri Shravanapu Venkatanarsaiah donated some land for the construction of the Sri Kanaka Durga Ammavari (Peddamma Thalli) temple. Sri Kancharla Jaggareddy, with the help and cooperation of the devotees, constructed the temple and consecrated the idol of Goddess Sri Kanaka Durga. Since then, daily rituals and worship are performed grandly for the Goddess, and she is worshipped as the family deity, Sri Peddamma Thalli, by the people of the surrounding villages. Every year, the Sri Devi Sharannavaratri (Dasara) and Sri Devi Vasantanavaratri festivals are celebrated with great grandeur. In this temple, the Goddess is enshrined as the village deity, and daily rituals are performed according to the Smarta Agama tradition. పూర్వకాలంలో ఈ ప్రాంతమంతా అరణ్యంగా ఉండెడిదని ప్రస్తుతం దేవాలయం వెలసియున్న రెండు గ్రామాలైన కేశవాపురం, జన్నాధపురం గ్రామాలు ఖమ్మం - భద్రాచలం వెళ్ళు రాజమార్గములో ఉండి వీటికి సమీపమున రాజ మార్గము ప్రక్కన ఒక పెద్దపులి ప్రతి రోజు సంచరిస్తూ ఉండేడిదని. అట్టి పెద్దపులి ఇట్టి మార్గము ప్రక్కన గల ఒక చింతచెట్టు క్రింద విశ్రాంతి తీసుకుంటూ సమీప గ్రామ ప్రజలకు ఎలాంటి హాని తలపెట్టక సాదు జంతువువలె విహరిస్తూ ఉండేడిదని. ఈ పెద్దపులిని చూసి గ్రామ ప్రజలు, బాటసారులు మరియు రాజమార్గమున ప్రయాణించు వాహనదారులు దైవాంశసంబూతంగా, వనదేవతగా శ్రీ కనకదుర్గా అమ్మ వారిగా భావించి భక్తితో పూజించెడివారని. ఇట్లు పూజించిన భక్తులకు మనోభావాలు, కోరికలు నెరవేరుచుండెడివని. కాలక్రమేన శ్రీ కనకదుర్గ అమ్మవారి రూపంగా వచ్చిన ఆ పులి అదృశ్యం అగుటచేత అప్పటి నుంచి అట్టి చింతచెట్టు క్రింద శ్రీ కనకదుర్గ అమ్మవారి ఫోటోను పెట్టి గ్రామ ప్రజలు పూజించుచుండేవారని. దాని తరువాత 1961-62 సంవత్సరంలో శ్రీ శ్రావణపు వెంకటనర్సయ్య గారు శ్రీ కనకదుర్గా అమ్మ వారి (పెద్దమ్మతల్లి దేవాలయం) నిర్మించుటకు కొంత స్థలం దానం ఇవ్వగా శ్రీ కంచర్ల జగ్గారెడ్డి గారు భక్తుల సహాయ సహకారములతో అమ్మవారికి దేవాలయ నిర్మాణం జరిపి శ్రీ కనకదుర్గా అమ్మవారి విగ్రహ ప్రతిష్ఠ గావించుట జరిగిందని . అప్పటి నుండి శ్రీ అమ్మవారికి ప్రతి రోజు వైభవంగా నిత్య పూజలు నిర్వహించడుచున్నవి మరియు చుట్టు ప్రక్క 'గ్రామాల ప్రజలకు ఇలవేల్పుగా శ్రీ పెద్దమ్మ తల్లిగా పూజలందుకొనుచున్నది. ప్రతి సంవత్సరం శ్రీ దేవి శరన్నవరాత్రోత్సవములు (దసరా) మరియు శ్రీ దేవి వసంతనవరాత్రోత్సవములు అతి వైభనముగా నిర్వహించబడుచున్నవి. ఈ దేవాలయములో అమ్మవారు గ్రామదేవతగా ప్రతిష్ఠించబడి ప్రతి నిత్యంస్మార్త ఆగమము ప్రకారము నిత్య పూజలు నిర్వహించబడుచున్నది.
