- Temple History The temple of Goddess Kali is one of the rare modern temples. It is located on the banks of the holy Krishnaveni river and is adorned with the idols of the three powers of Goddess Mahakali, Goddess Mahalakshmi and Goddess Mahasaraswati, who are the symbols of will and knowledge. It is also a sacred place with eighteen holy feet Sri Degapudi Kodandarami Reddy, a military engineer, found the Swayambhu Sri Mahakali idol in the forests around Nellore and brought it to Vijayawada. On 14.10.1947, a devotee of Shakti Upasakku Sri Gunja Ramaswamy, known as Kali Das, conducted puja rituals for about one and a half years as a small temple. The temple was closed due to the influence of Kali until January 1 of the following year. When the temple was opened with the idea of renovation, the temple was opened by the spiritualist Sri Turaka Venkateswarlu and the visitors were amazed by the light. The temple premises seemed to have been cleaned recently. Therefore, since then this place has become famous as the Swayambhu of Sri Mahakali Ammavari and is being worshipped with the enthusiasm of thousands of devotees. In the year 1976, as a beginning of the renovation for the convenience of the increasing number of devotees, This area has been established as the abode of the Goddess, every year, every year.
