Temple History Kaleshwaram is at the juncture of the rivers Godavari and its Pranahita tributary. Kaleshwaram town is on the border of Telangana and Maharashtra in Mahadevpur mandal, in Jayashankar Bhupalapally District, Telangana State. Kaleshwaram town is famous for ancient Shiva temple known by the name Kaleshwara Mukteshwara Swamy Temple. Kaleswara Mukteshwara Swamy Temple is a unique temple. The sanctum sanctorum has four gates in four directions. Here, The unique aspect of this ancient temple is the presence of two Lingams holding onto one pedestal or the Panavattam. There is no other place like this in India. Here it is a specialty. Here Kaleswara is worshiped first and then Mukteswara. Kaleshwaram is a village located on the border of Telangana and Maharashtra states. This place is a famous Shiva temple dedicated to "Kaleeshwara Mukteswara Swamy". Kaleshwaram is located 275 km from Hyderabad 130 km from Karimnagar town and about 120 km from Warangal. Kaleshwaram temple is one of the three famous Shiva temples in Trilinga Desam (Land of Three Lingas). The other two are Draksharamam and Srisailam in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy Temple is a unique temple, The sanctum sanctorum has four gates in four directions. Here, Kaleshwara and Mukteswara are worshipped on the same panavattam. This is not found anywhere else in India. This is a special place here. Here Kaleshwara is worshipped first and then Mukteswara. Due to the presence of these two lingas here, this temple is called Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy Temple. Subhananda Devi, the divine consort of Mukteshwara Swamy, blesses from a special shrine in this temple. Other deities here include Goddess Saraswati and Lord Ganesha. This ancient temple has many unique and interesting features that connect the devotees spiritually. The Mukteshwara Lingam has two nostrils at the top. It is remarkable that no matter how much abhishek water is poured into these two holes, it does not come out. Science has also failed to provide a definitive explanation for this phenomenon. However, some believe that it is an underground passage leading to the Godavari River. The abhishek water poured into these two holes meets the Godavari River, which is 1 KM away from the temple at the base of the Lingam. There are many very attractive sculptures and inscriptions on the walls of this temple. One such sculpture is of a fish with a unique style and design. Some sculptures of Surya, Matsya and Brahma. This temple, which has a large lingam like the one in the Sri Ramappa temple complex, is similar to the Kakatiya style of architecture. The Skanda Purana, a highly respected text that narrates the story of Kartikeya (son of Shiva and Parvati), mentions this shrine at Kaleshwaram. Within the temple premises, there is a triangular-shaped Yamakonam. It is believed that those who enter this Yamakonam without touching their heads will not be harmed by the Yamuni. Another special feature here is that the Nandeeswarar on the stone flag pillar in front of the temple appears to face south during Dakshinayana and north during Uttarayana. This temple has temples dedicated to Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati, Brahma Deva, Surya and Sri Rama. A little distance from the Kaleshwara temple, there is also the Adi Mukteshwarar temple. Ancient story: Initially, Kaleshwaram was inhabited by Mukteshwara. Since Mukteshwara gives salvation to all the devotees who visit this temple, Yama had no work to do. Then, Yama did penance for Shiva and got a boon that he would live next to Shiva (Mukteshwaralingam) and that only the lingam of Kala should be worshipped first. According to Shiva's boon, there is a custom of worshipping Kaleshwara here first. In front of the sanctum sanctorum, there are Jaya and Vijaya as the gatekeepers. Jaya argued that Kaleshwaram is greater than Kashi, and Vijaya that Kashi is greater, and prayed to Suryanarayana for a verdict. However, Lord Sun said that Kaleshwaram is greater than Kashi by a mustard seed. Thus, Jaya-Vijaya are the gatekeepers here (these Jaya-Vijaya are not the Jaya-Vijaya who are in Vaikuntha). As a witness to this, there is the Suryanarayana Swamy temple in the northeast direction of the temple. There is a Saraswati temple here. There is a Triveni Sangam in Kashi. There is a Pancha Nadi Sangam in Kaleshwaram. If you die in Kashi, it is said that you will be liberated. It is said that there will be no rebirth by seeing the peak of Srisaila.
