Temple History Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar was inaugurated in 1992 and was built by the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. The temple is dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan and represents traditional Indian architecture combined with modern exhibition concepts. It is constructed entirely from pink sandstone and showcases intricate carvings depicting Indian culture, spirituality, and devotion. The monument was inspired by Pramukh Swami Maharaj to promote spiritual values, moral living, and Indian heritage. The central monument houses a 7-foot tall gold-leaf idol of Bhagwan Swaminarayan in a seated posture. Over the years, Akshardham has become one of Gujarat’s most visited spiritual and cultural complexes.
