Aishwarya Ganapathi, popularly known as Avancha Ganapathi, is a magnificent monolithic Ganesh idol located at Avancha village, Thimmajipeta Mandal, Nagarkurnool district, Telangana. Belonging to the Western Chalukya dynasty, this 12th-century granite sculpture stands about 30 feet tall including its pedestal, making it one of the tallest Ekasila (single-stone) Ganapathi idols in India. Commissioned by King Thylapudu after shifting his capital to Avancha in 1113 AD, the idol is uniquely positioned in an open agricultural field without a temple structure, symbolizing divine presence in harmony with nature. - Temple History The Aishwarya Ganapathi, also known as the Monolithic Ganesh of Avancha, is a remarkable 12th-century sculpture located at Avancha village in Thimmajipeta Mandal, Nagarkurnool district, Telangana. This colossal idol of Lord Ganesha belongs to the period of the Western Chalukya dynasty and is carved from a single massive granite boulder. The statue stands about 7.62 meters (25 feet) tall, and rises to approximately 9.14 meters (30 feet) including its pedestal, making it one of the tallest monolithic stone Ganesh idols in India. The idol was commissioned and sculpted during the reign of King Thylapudu, a Western Chalukya ruler who governed the region with Avancha as his capital. Thylapudu was the son of Someshwara and a descendant of King Vikramaditya of the Badami Chalukyas (present-day Kalaburagi/Gulbarga region). The Western Chalukyas ruled large parts of present-day Telangana for over two centuries, leaving behind several architectural and sculptural marvels. In 1113 AD, King Thylapudu shifted his capital to Avancha and commissioned this magnificent monolithic Ganesh, also referred to in local lore as Kapilavai Linga Moorthy. What makes the Avancha Ganapathi truly unique is its unusual open-air setting.
