- Temple History The Statue of Equality was envisioned by the spiritual leader Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji to commemorate the 1,000th birth anniversary of Sri Ramanujacharya, a revolutionary 11th-century saint. Ramanujacharya was a pioneer of social justice who defied the rigid social hierarchies of his time, opening the doors of temples and spiritual knowledge to all people, regardless of their caste or background. The statue serves as a "Beacon of Equality," reminding the world of the saint’s core philosophy: “All are equal before God.” The monument was constructed using Panchaloha, a sacred five-metal alloy, and was manufactured in China before being shipped to India in segments and assembled at Muchintal. The project was funded entirely by donations from devotees across the globe and sits atop the Bhadra Vedi, a 54-foot high base building. This structure is more than just a pedestal; it houses a Vedic digital library, a research center, and a gallery that showcases the life and timeless teachings of the saint through immersive exhibits. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2022, the statue stands at 216 feet, making it one of the tallest sitting statues in the world. It is surrounded by the 108 Divya Desams—identical miniature replicas of the 108 Vishnu temples mentioned in the works of the Alwars.
