- Temple History Hyderabad’s iconic Khairatabad Ganesh idol marks its 72nd year with the grand avatar of Sri Panchamukha Sankatahara Maha Ganapati. Standing at a towering height of 69 feet, this five-faced form of Lord Ganesha is traditionally revered as the supreme remover of all hardships, distress, and obstacles (Sankatahara). Flanking the colossal central idol are significant supplementary shrines. To the right of Maha Ganapati stands a detailed 15-foot depiction of the sacred Somnath Jyothirlinga, while to the left is an installation of Kalika Mata. Crafted under the supervision of veteran chief sculptor Chinnaswamy Rajendran, who has led the artistry for nearly four decades, the entire structure is built using eco-friendly materials. Over 100 to 150 skilled artisans and craftsmen from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu have assembled the idol using natural clay, steel frames, dry grass, rice husk, and wooden scaffolding, along with water-soluble pigments.
