- Temple History Sri Venkaiah Swamy was born in a small village called Nagulavellatur in SPSR Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, to a humble and devout couple, Sompalli Pitchamma and Penchalaiah. From an early age, he showed deep spiritual inclination and detachment from worldly life. As a young boy, he was known for his simplicity, compassion, and innate devotion to God. Instead of pursuing ordinary ambitions, he chose a life of sadhana (spiritual practice), meditation, and service. As he grew older, Venkaiah Swamy became known as an Avadhuta saint — one who has transcended social norms and conventional identity in pursuit of the absolute truth. With minimal possessions and profound inner awareness, he wandered across villages, offering spiritual guidance to seekers, healing the sick, feeding the poor, and spreading messages of peace, humility, and devotion. His presence alone was said to bring solace to the suffering, and many flocked to him for blessings and counsel. In the early 1970s, Venkaiah Swamy began to spend more time in Golagamudi village, a serene settlement surrounded by paddy fields and open skies. It was here that his spiritual aura drew crowds of devotees seeking his darshan. With their encouragement and his own inner directive, he began to establish a spiritual centre in Golagamudi. In 1974, he took up residence here more permanently, spending long hours in meditation and guiding disciples. Recognizing the need for a place of worship and collective spiritual practice, he laid the foundation for what would later become the Samadhi Mandir. Through the late 1970s, Venkaiah Swamy continued his spiritual work, conducting discourses, guiding devotees, and overseeing the development of the ashram complex. His life was marked by simplicity, intense devotion, and selfless service, and people from nearby towns began to call him a living saint. On 24th August 1982, after a life dedicated entirely to spiritual upliftment, Venkaiah Swamy attained Mahasamadhi — a conscious and auspicious departure from the body. His final body was interred in the very building he had consecrated, and this site became the Samadhi Mandir, the sacred heart of the temple complex. After his Mahasamadhi, devotees continued to gather at Golagamudi to worship his Samadhi and seek his blessings. Over the years, the small shrine transformed into an 11-acre ashram complex, with meditation halls, accommodation for pilgrims, and spaces for daily worship and community activities. Today, the temple is considered one of the most significant modern pilgrimage centres in Nellore district, drawing thousands of devotees from across Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and other states. The life of Sri Venkaiah Swamy is remembered through recollections of his compassion, deep spiritual insight, simplicity, and tireless service. Stories of his healing touch, his quiet yet powerful presence, and the way he uplifted people spiritually and morally continue to inspire countless devotees. 🚆By Rail: The nearest major railway station is Nellore (NLR), around 12 km from the temple, with good connectivity on the Chennai–Vijayawada–Howrah line. Venkatachalam railway halt is another nearby option, about 8–9 km away.
✈️By Air: The nearest airport is Tirupati Airport (Renigunta), roughly 100 km away, with road and rail links to Nellore. Chennai International Airport is another convenient access point (~180 km), from where frequent buses and trains are available to Nellore.
